This is "Gabby" a boxer/pit bull mix. I found her in a shelter near the school and Lisa has always wanted a boxer. Once I filled out the adoption paper work it went pretty quick (filled it out on Friday, took her home on Saturday) because the dog absolutely loves me and took to me immediately, which the shelter workers loved.
Fortunately, she already housebroken and knows quite a few commands. She is incredibly intelligent and has already learned her new name (formerly "Seven") She also seems very protective and territorial, which should be good as long as she sees the baby as hers.

Nice. We're actually looking for a dog ourselves.
Good Choice! Don't believ all that you here about boxers and pits! They are very loal as long as they are treated well.
We had so many abandoned at the shelters I worked at (about 12 yrs back) because of all of the "attacks" but if you look further into it you find out theres alway an unheard story! I think it's great that you brought her home before the baby too. It gives her the chance to learn how to live with you guys before adding the "nos" and "don'ts" with the baby!
Cali, I HIGHLY recomend Labs! Just make sure you get the runt. They're always used to being picked on and will tollerate Gideons ear pulling a little better.
Sorry about the long comment but you guys hit on one of my favorite subjects!
I’m jealous. No room for a dog at home, Steph is allergic to cats, and she thinks Hedge Hogs are ugly. So I make sure I always play with my Client’s pets.
I love the dog. I am glad you rescued her, but I hope she doesn't think the baby is hers. My Brother-in-law had a great dog who thought my baby was hers. She was so protective of newborn Jesse that everytime I went to pick Jesse up the dog would growl and warn me away. I had to wait for Jim to put the dog outside before I could pick up my girl. :-)
Of course the dog didn't know me so I am sure that she was just protecting the baby from the "stranger".
Will, What about gold fish? Chinchillas are great too...very low on dander!
Trav's allergic to cats too actually. But we still have one. He's just used to itchy eyes and a stuffy nose I guess.
@Will: hedgehog is a great idea!! Oh man.. the days of Sonic. memories... freakin awesome!
@Erica: we watched a chinchilla for a few weeks while a coworker went overseas. For exercise we would put the chinchilla on the bathroom floor and let it run around for an hour or so. The odd thing was that in that hours time, the floor would be literally covered in chinchilla droppings everywhere! Like the little thing caches them in waiting for the perfect opportunity. I couldn't believe so much crap could come out of a little pet.
Corey, I knew that...But I kinda thought they'd keep it in a CAGE! I'm Rolling! EWE! They're kinda' fragile too so mabe they're such a good idea...Id hate to see Ben try to add him to his drum set or something. LOL
Cali, one time Steph and I went to scrap at a friends house who had cats.(She had vacumed like crazy knowing that Steph was allergic) Well any way Steph got SSOOOO sick. I didn't know cats could do that to some one. Before then, I honestly thought people with allergies were just big whiners! I have seen the light.
Will, just wait a year or so... We plan to bread Lady.
I mean breed!
bread was funnier.
I'm allergic to cats too.. Drive me nuts. sinuses leak like a fully open faucet, my eyes well close to shut, etc.
I can usually take claratin for it, but then I turn into a zombie that just stares off to space. Sometimes that is a desirable effect, cats or not.
Well just to keep the peace I think I'll leave the cat at home this summer when we get together...
And I think I've decided what kind of dog we want to get. I think a Puggle would be really cute. I'm still fighting with Travis on that point though.
It doesn't sound like a very MANLY dog. What is it? Pug and beagle? Pug and poodle? Never heard of them.
Pug and Beagle. It doesn't have to be manly. It's not Trav's dog. They're actually darling. Besides, Trav wants a miniature schnauzer and I keep trying to tell him that's an old lady dog thats waaaaaay too hyper for me.
Sorry Cali, I wasn't trying to offend. I was just thinking that I saw his point of veiw. I guess I was wrong.
:)
PS I Googled Puggles. Just so I could know what they looked like.
You didn't offend me Erica. I was just explaining that for a guy who is such a redneck aas my husband is, it's funny because he has very "old lady" taste in dogs.
Get him a labra-doodle.. Coby has one and its a good dog, great around the kids, etc. Plus, there's nothing funnier than a mix between a labrador and a poodle.
(see Coby and Sarge at this url.. Sarge is getting BIG!)

Okay, offend or not, but HOW WEIRD IS THAT?
I hope for the mom's sake it was male poodle / female lab!
